Mexico Update

Written by Johannes Fresz Tuesday, 27 April 2010 22:54
I am quite busy writing songs and practicing for our upcoming gig on the 16th of may with my band Koru. We are also partnering with two churches in evangelism. It´s just amazing how open the people here are to the gospel. We have also had some finances coming in so that Esther is closer to come and join us. Thank you to all who have given towards our outreach fees. It is still really hard for Esther and me to be separated. So far it has been over 5 weeks and that has been the downside of the outreach so far. I am grateful for Skype and Google Voice & Video.

Mexico City

I have been here in mexico city for over two weeks with the band Koru that was formed during my school of music in missions. It all started with our school starting a fundraiser for our finances that we still needed for our band to actually pay for ground fees and our airfare on facebook. A lot of people have responded and I am so grateful to each and every one who gave because most of our team got to go. That is some good news because we needed over 30000 $AU. Sadly our team is not complete yet. Esther still has not got her finances to cover the ground fees and her airfare. As a family we still need…

Australia is hot!

These first few weeks in the SOMM have been quite challenging, not so much from a technical level but more on a heart level. I am definitely challenged in the area of excellence as I see that I have been slacking off a lot. It is my aim to highly improve during my time here in the school and of course beyond that as well. Last week I have really been struggling with meeting the 10 hour minimum requirement for practicing my instrument. This week with Benny Prasad teaching on excellence It seems to go a little easier. I mostly enjoy the songwriting and Band-practice times as these times are definitely hands on music. The only real downsides to the…

Fish and Chips in Freemantle

Written by Johannes Fresz Sunday, 03 January 2010 03:03
Yesterday Mark & Julie took us to Freo, a part Perth with a rich history. It´s where the harbor, a lot of historical sites and many Cafés are. On our way there we drove, what feels like all over Perth and we got a private tour of the city. It´s great to have friends that have lived here for over two decades. By now we have somewhat of an idea of our immediate surroundings. When we arrived in Freemantle, or Freo as the locals call it we had fish and chips with vinegar - totally new to me but it is tasty - at Cicerello´s. After that we went for a walk and ended up having a coffee in a…

Welcome to Perth Australia

Written by Johannes Fresz Saturday, 02 January 2010 02:15
So we have finally made it to Australia. It was our first time to fly with Emirates Airline and for me (Johannes) that was quite the media challenge. If you can choose from over 200 movies and over 50 music channels - sleep is not an option. We arrived in Perth at 3am and got picked up by Mark and Julie Spence, who we know since Esthers event-management school. On the day we arrived Mark and Julie gave us a tour of the city so we know a little bit more about Perth now. At the moment we are staying in a neat house with three other couples only a ten minute walk away from the base - the first…

Camping Trip

On Friday of last week all the staff from the YWAM Lausanne Base packed bags and we headed down to Interlaken to have a staff retreat. We all set up our tents on Friday evening and enjoyed the fellowship. On Saturday we went Hiking in the Eiger, Mönch & Junfrau region. It sure was a tough hike and we had to stop and return because it started raining too hard. It still was a pleasant trip especially because only few came along and we had great talks. We got back late that afternoon and had a BBQ. We were totally exhausted and went to bed and slept like rocks.

1st of August in Switzerland

Last week we headed east towards Geneva where we met up with our dear Friends Michael & Lisa  with Judah. Ed and Kay Morales were also there and we took a trip to the fare in downtown Geneva. We had a picnic at the lake and just enjoyed to see our friends again and catch up with what has been going on for the past year. It always feels great to come back to the Geneva region because it there are so many memories attached to it which of course is because we lived here for over a year. Towards the evening we headed back to Burtigny where we met even more friends of ours and had BBQ. After a…

Hiking in Switzerland

Written by Johannes Fresz Thursday, 26 November 2009 09:34
Yesterday we went on our first hike this year here in Switzerland. The sports DTS had made plans to go hiking and the Community Life team decided that if staff would pay an extra 5 Sfr they could join as well. That being said of course we took that opportunity. We started the hike at about 10:00 am and made it up to the mountain by 2 pm.  The sports DTS really made it look an easy ascend as they literally ran up there. We stuck around with some of the other staff that were not as fit as the DTS. Anyway we made it up there. Reaching the top we had a georgeous view on lake Geneva and we could…
